About the Author

Elie Wiesel was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986. The author of more than fifty internationally acclaimed works of fiction and nonfiction, he is Andrew W. Mellon Professor in the Humanities and University Professor at Boston University.

When will they every learn?

"One Generation After" came on the heels of Wiesel's novel "A Beggar in Jerusalem" which focused on the same concerns about the aftermath of WWII and the Six Day War. "One Generation After" is a series of collected thoughts, some fashioned as dialogues, others as stories, about the place of Jews in the world twenty-five years after the Holocaust. The events of WWII are very much alive in Wiesel's writings, and in the world in general, as he explores what it means to be a Jew and the place that Israel holds within the world and the factors that shape identity.

Perhaps one of the most moving stories in this book is Wiesel's account of returning to his hometown in search of the gold watch he received for his bar mitzvah. Before his family was taken to the concentration camps, they buried their valuables in their yard; but upon returning to a village that is no longer the same and digging up the corroded watch, he realizes he cannot take it with him. He never returns to his village. But not all of the tales are memories of Wiesel's alone. He talks about people he met during the war and after, whose lives were forever altered. He offers his thoughts into issues of the day that still resonate in today's world. His thoughts on why Israel is so scorned by the world are insightful and sadly, dead on. And he offers a compelling explanation for why so many who survived the camps have struggled with faith.

Elie Wiesel is a talented and intelligent writer, whose voice the world may never have heard if it wasn't for his experience in Auschwitz. He has spent his life as a witness, testifying to what he has seen, and keeping the memories of those who did not survive. "One Generation After" may seem disjointed and rather diary-like, but it offers great insight into the ways of the world, even if twenty-five years after the Holocaust the lessons haven't been learned. Unfortunately even now, over sixty years later, those lessons haven't been learned, but Wiesel offers hope that it is possible.

About the Author
Eric Luhta is a professional animator whose recent credits include "Bioshock 2", "Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs", "Horton Hears A Who!", and numerous television commercials. Eric has extensive experience with Autodesk's Maya, including teaching it, as an instructor for the Maya Training Program at AnimationMentor.com. He currently lives in Los Angeles, CA with his wife and 3 computers.
Kenny Roy entered the animation industry in 1998 and has animated on feature films, television, commercials and rides, and started his very own animation studio in Los Angeles, CA. Now in its 6th year of operation, Arconyx Animation Studios has worked with clients Nickelodeon to Cartoon Network, Fox to Mattel. Kenny has mentored full time at AnimationMentor.com for 6 years, and also offers in-depth animation video training on his personal website, www.kennyroy.com. He lives in LA with his wife and son.

The best animators guide to Maya there is.

Simply a must-have book for any digital animator. I am a CG character animator of 16 years experience. I've worked for I.L.M., Activision and ImageMovers Digital and now I teach animation at the University level. I recommend this book to all my students.
Well written and filled with great information - even pros will find some tips to love.

About the Author

DAVID AUNE is Professor of New Testament and Christian Origins at the University of Notre Dame. He holds an M.A. from Wheaton Graduate School of Theology, an M.A. from the University of Minnesota, and a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. Among his publications are The New Testament in its Literary Environment and Greco-Roman Literature and the New Testament (editor).

The standard for professional scholars.

I certainly agree with points made by one reviewer who described these volumes as encyclopaedic "database for specialists", but that is inconsistant with his being doubtful of the usefulness of some sections and their level of detail. He may never had to write an exegesis paper for a graduate level course on a biblical subject. Of course, I am giving away my point of view. That said, I would NEVER recommend this book, or any one of its volumes to the casual reader who wanted to know something about Revelation. I would not even recommend the Word series for pastors. For that, there are lots of really good books, such as Ben Witherington's social commmentary or Elizabeth Schussler Fiorenza's feminist leaning commentary, or best of all, Bruce Metzger's "Breaking the Code".

The Word series is for professors who teach in seminaries, and who deal with deep textual and translational problems. This is especially true of Aune's three volumes.That is as long as Nolland's 3 volumes on the Gospel of Luke, which is longer book in the Bible. Part of this may be due to the fact that Revelation may be the most poorly written book in the Greek New Testament. Even as late as Erasmus' 1516 edition of the Greek NT, we did not have good sources for the whole book. Erasmus filled in the gaps by back translating parts from St. Jerome's Latin translation. (These missing Greek pieces have since been found. Jerome did NOT make those parts up.)

I have used several different works in the Word commentary series, alway with some other commentary open at the same time. Almost invariably, the Word contribution is more even handed, more thorough, and more accurate in avoiding far fetched theories about the text. Aune, however, does stray from this standard in a big way with his theory, ably described in Mr. Garrow's review. I will also agree with Mr. Garrow's review of the first volume, and his source, Dr. Richard Bauckham, that unlike the Gospel of John, for example, Revelation is probably the result of a single hand, maybe not all in one sitting, but that would help to explain the atrocious Greek.

Reading Word commentaries can be a bit tedious, but if you are looking for information on an especially detailed matter in the text, this is the place to come. I think library search software may someday replace the Word series, but that time has not yet come.

Aune has hit a home run with his commentary on Revelation 6-16 in the Word Biblical Commentary series. Exhaustive in treatment of words, excellent in comparison of their use within Revelation, and extensive in offering alternate meanings with their sources, this book is a must for anyone seeking to update their collection of reference books on this last and controversial book of the New Testament.

The book is good reference for those who are advanced in qi men dun jia. Beginners will have hard time to use it because Joey Yap doesn't bother to tell you that the charts are grouped by a pair of days! I asked his customer service if the book is complete when it comes to qi men charts and receive no response! I found the answer in a qi men software very later. It seems that money is first over customers problems in Joey Academy.... If you write a good book people will be drawn to you naturally in order to perfect their knowledge....
