About the Author
Jeanette Elisabeth Menter is a former newspaper columnist, freelance magazine writer and Christian Lay Counselor. She began her writing career at the age of sixteen. Her interest in codependency is based in her own experiences. Having had to live through a childhood filled with addiction, abuse, ongoing shame as a way of control and more, she knows what readers are dealing with. “I had the very real need to share what I have learned along the way about this dibilitating problem. I present codependency in a whole new light and believe that anyone who commits to what is laid out in this book will see positive changes in their lives.” Born in Munich, Germany, she was raised in Ohio. At the age of twenty-two she bought a one-way train ticket to California to escape a violent relationship. She spent the next 28 years there and had an successful advertising career for over twenty years. Yet inside she was still battling the demons of codependency. In 2007 she received her Bachelor’s Degree (Cum Laude) from Indiana Wesleyan University with a focus on communications. She and her husband, John moved to Las Vegas in 2012 to be nearer to their grown children in California. “It’s amazing how many people still don’t understand codependency, even when it is consuming them and those they love. Great information

I have always known something was not right with me, but could never pinpoint what that something was. Based on past relations with significant others, famil and friends...I just thought I was a depressed control freak. After reading reviews and description of this book, I finally got it. After forty years, I finally understand that I'm not crazy and that my actions are based on thinks I was raised. In no way playing the blame game, it was enlightening to see a pattern in my family structure that dates back even before my time. It's almost like a cycle, and this wonderful book allowed me to see that. That being said, the strategies and confidence I have built up since reading this book has turned me into a more positive person, that wants to live my life and not depend on living through others through control or manipulation even at a subconscious level. It was also peace of mind to know that this is a true disorder...maybe not medically classified, but it is real and it is a cycle/addiction that can be broke. Thanks so much for this eye opener book that has truly changed the way I'm living my life...and my family thanks you as well

This book is truly a life changer. At 52 years of age I had become a highly functional, sucessful codependent. Assuming at my age & the circumstances of my life accepting my brokeness was just the way it was. Never imagined any thing could or would change or
be different , as these were the cards I had been dealt.
I WAS WORNG ON EVERY LEVEL. As a result of this book, my life has done 360 & the clarity, understanding & healing are astonishingly remarkable, not to mention unbelievable. I am finally FREE w/ a peace I never thought possible.
Thank you the the author for sharing her walk through codependency, in order to help others get to the other side. What a blessing.

why the religion?

I bought this book because i was looking for a way to understand codependency. It is probably a good book for the person who is or wants to be a christian. But some people are looking for a way to solve their problems without involving religion. This is not a book for them.

A Must-Read for Men and Women in Ministry

Mixed Ministry by Sue Edwards, Kelley Matthews and Henry J. Rogers is a book consisting of two parts: Seeing One Another As Siblings and Safeguards for Siblings.

The premise of the authors is to explain how Christian men and women should relate to each other in a healthy manner as brothers and sisters in Christ, and not objects of desire or temptation.

Chapter 1 explains what it means to see each other as brothers and sisters in Christ. Chapter 2 explores the question: How did Jesus view and treat women? Chapter 3 examines how Paul viewed and treated women. Chapter 4 considers how brothers and sisters in Christ can see each other without lust. Chapter 5 explains how to create a healthy mixed gender ethos. Chapter 6 explores gender differences as they pertain to the body of Christ. Chapter 7 gives "rules" for women for working on a mixed gender team. Chapter 8 concludes part 1 and gives "rules" for men for working on a mixed gender team.

Chapter 9 discusses sexual temptation. Chapter 10 discuses how to "light up" a ministry to expose sin in a mixed ministry. Chapter 11 explores how Jesus treated "wild women" and how the church should treat them. Chapter 12 discusses the downward spiral of temptation. Chapter 13 proposes how to establish appropriate boundaries between the sexes. Chapter 14 discusses the importance of modesty from the inside out for both sexes. Chapter 15 talks about the dangers of pornography. Chapter 16 discusses safeguards for spouses.

This book is recommended for Bible college students, seminarians, pastors, pastors' wives, church staff members, and men and women in parachurch Christian ministries.

Now we know how much these men of the Middle Ages, for so long called the “Dark Ages,” were interested in every phase of human progress. They created a great art and literature, and above all a magnificent architecture. We have been cultivating the knowledge of these for several generations, and it would indeed be a surprise to find that the men who made such surpassing[Pg viii] achievements in all the other lines of human effort should have failed only in medicine.

As a matter of fact, we have found that the history of medicine and surgery, and of the medical education of the Middle Ages, are quite as interesting as all the other phases of their accomplishments. Hence the compression that has been necessary to bring a purview of all that we know with regard to medieval medicine within the compass of a brief book of this kind. The treatment has been necessarily fragmentary, and yet it is hoped that the details which are given here may prove suggestive for those who have sufficient interest in the subject to wish to follow it, and may provide an incentive for others to learn more of this magnificent chapter of the work of the medieval physicians.”

Helps clear up some misconceptions

This was an interesting book. The first chapter was a little tedious, but after that it quickly captured my interest and kept it. Many misconceptions of medieval medicine have been nicely cleared up. There were many innovations during this time in surgery, dentistry, and even reconstructive procedures. If you're a history buff, I think you will like it.
