About the Author
Radha Gopalan, M.D. Cardiologist, Acupuncturist and Certified Yoga Instructor
Born in northern Sri-Lanka, Dr. Radha Gopalan started his medical education at North Colombo Medical College in 1985. When civil unrest put his studies on hold, he seized the opportunity to become an acupuncturist at the International University for Complementary Medicines in Colombo, Sri-Lanka. In 1990, and already well versed in Eastern and Western philosophies of medicine, Dr. Gopalan transferred to St. Georges University to complete his medical degree.
By 1993, Dr. Gopalan’s interest in eastern philosophy took him to London, where he worked as an acupuncturist with the acclaimed Dr. Ravi Ponniah. Again, East met West as he observed the integration of Acupuncture, Homeopathy, Osteopathy and herbs in the treatment of patients.
Dr. Gopalan returned to the United States for his post-graduate training in Internal Medicine and Cardiology in New Jersey. He?received additional fellowship training in Cardiac Electrophysiology, as well as another fellowship in Heart Transplant at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia. He is also an acupuncturist and certified yoga instructor and is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Heart Transplant and Medical Acupuncture.
After working in Scottsdale, Arizona for several years, he now lives in New York City and continues to blend East and West as a Heart Failure and Heart Transplant Cardiologist.

The Author shares his own personal life experience to give an example of how utilizing your "YOUPOWER" can change the outcome of a life and death situation. He also explains simplistically the differences between Eastern and Western medicines and the benefits of utilizing both in conjunction with your YOUPOWER. It's a book everyone can benefit from regardless of age, status of health or disease. You feel inspired to take charge of your life and your health positively and feel its never to late to do so. Its extremely EMPOWERING.!!

I am very interested in health, fitness and nutrition and have read many books in this area. I found Second Option to be very different and provided me with a perspective that was above and beyond the norm. I appreciated the intelligent explanations of how to collaborate Eastern and Western medicine and how both can work in conjunction and not to the sole exclusion of the other – ie: the best of both worlds. Additionally, I gained crucial insight regarding how to be your own best advocate within the healthcare system. I appreciated the direct application for improvement of health in the preventative aspect as well the healing aspect in a multitude of different health issues such as cancer, obesity, heart disease, blood pressure, diabetes and stroke. The author also included informative anecdotal stories based his experiences as both a healthcare provider caring for his patients, as well as his own very personal experiences. These personal stories not only made the health applications very easy to understand but also made for a very enjoyable reading experience as I have read too many medical books that are “clinical” and boring. This book truly provides a revolutionary and innovative perspective regarding the approach to health and wellness which is ahead of the times. While I am very picky about my reading choices, I highly recommend Second Opinion by Dr. Radha Gopalan.

When I thought I'd be diagnosed my entire life...

This book has helped me come so far not only in my personal health but also in my family's life. I suffer from clinically diagnosed anxiety and spend upwards of $120 on medications per month trying to manage it after insurance. Reading Dr. Gopalan's book has inspired me and taught me ways to cure myself that don't just prolong and hide my anxiety, but actually resolve my health problems from the inside. I am taking about half of the dose of my medications and doing better than ever. This book has helped me understand how to build a better lifestyle that ends up making me not only happier, but also healthier.
